(Hopefully I can study with you more senior and junior year! :) )

Designed for students interested in traditional East Asia, religion and the interaction of texts and the arts – or any combination of these subjects – this seminar will explore traditional Japanese culture with a particular emphasis on vision and its relation to aesthetic, religious and ethical insight. Studies of the essential aspects of Japanese history, the mechanics of East Asian writing systems and Mahâyâna Buddhism will be complemented by visits to celebrated gardens and opportunities to practice Zen meditation and experience traditional theater, music and the tea ceremony. In addition, students will learn how the science of vision helps us understand the aesthetic achievements of garden designers, architects and painters.

I think in this final semester my main goal is simply to polish my skills as much as I can before the summer so that I feel comfortable speaking. Now that I know I'm going to Kyoto i'm very excited about getting better. With my schedule being as heavily science and math oriented as it is Iif i'm being honest I must say 'm a little disapointed I can't devote myself more fully to Japanese because of my workload in other classes. If it were up to me I'd spend way more time practicing now that I know I'll be in Japan for a about a month and a few weeks. But I intend to do the best I can.
As for speaking...
I find even if I know the vocabulary and grammar structures flawlessly(after lots of studying), I get very nervous when I have to speak formally like in our exams. Casual speech among my peers is a lot easier for me but in general I think its important I become more comfortable with my speech.
As for how to do this,
Iv'e been saying I will attend more office hours all year and unfortunately I think my track record still is not good. Simply put I know that with my job at the chemistry lab and my class schedule it is extremely hard for me to add on extra obligations even when they are actually important to me like with Japanese. I suppose maybe if I set them up ahead of time, instead of waiting for myself to have "free time" I'll be able to do more.
The tone of this post is a little gloomy but really I'm actually very happy with where JPN 101 and 102 has gotten me. Without it I wouldn't be taking my first trip to Kyoto! I love learning Japanese and I hope to make the most out of this remaining semester.

I'm going to keep this short and sweet!
This semester I want to get better about speaking aloud more comfortably. Even while I was learning Spanish for years back in Highschool I always had problems with being nervous about practicing my speech in front of others. Despite that I know it's an extremely valuable skill so I intend to try as hard as I can to get better. I also hope to attend more language table dinners as well, I think that would be a huge help. (^.^)

(クリスマス がありませんですが this sort of thing takes me a very long time! So i'm still working on it/it's not done yet.)
Here's a closeup.... (^.^)
When i'm finished with the lines i'm going to paint it using watercolors as well. :)
